"CUBSYS" Pack Management System
*******************************
"CUBSYS" requires the following minimum system configuration:
- DOS Version 3.3 or higher (earlier versions of DOS only allow 20
file handles to open at a time. This includes those file handles
used for the Screen, Keyboard, Printer, etc.),
- 512K or more of memory,
- a hard drive with at least 1.5 megabytes of free space,
- a printer which supports the IBM character set (Graphics)
In addition, your CONFIG.SYS file must contain a line showing at least
the following number of files:
FILES=60
If you have a CONFIG.SYS file that does not contain this line ( or
FILES are less than 60), you must edit your CONFIG.SYS file so it does.
Use any ASCII text editor or your DOS editor to modify the file. Refer
to your DOS manual if necessary. Be sure to reboot your computer to
implement the changes.
"CUBSYS" has been tested on 4.77 Mhz IBM XT's, 286 compatibles, 386
compatibles and 486 compatibles. Obviously the response time on the
486's was superb, but even on the XT's the response time was good.
Every effort has been made to ensure that "CUBSYS" will run properly
on any size machine with the minimum system requirements shown above.
Files included:
READ.ME - This file.
PROGRAMS.ZIP - Contains the executable programs and documentation.
DEMODATA.ZIP - Contains a set of legitimate data for playing with.
EMPTYDAT.ZIP - Contains a set of empty databases ready for input of
your records.
It is highly recommended that you create a separate directory for "CUBSYS".
Simply type at the DOS prompt:
MD C:\CUBSYS
CD C:\CUBSYS
Copy the files above into the new directory.
You should unzip PROGRAMS.ZIP first.
You can print the documentation by typing at the DOS prompt:
PRINT CUBSYS.DOC
Next unzip DEMODATA.ZIP.
Start the system by typing CUBSYS. By using the Demo Data you can evaluate
the system thoroughly. Do not be afraid to try anything. After all, it's only
Demo Data. Actually, it is real data from a real pack, only the addresses and
phone numbers have been changed to protect the innocent.
If you decide to use "CUBSYS" for your own pack records, you should erase
the demo data first. At the DOS prompt type:
ERASE *.DBF
ERASE *.NTX
Unzip EMPTYDAT.ZIP and you will be ready to begin input of your own pack
records. Print the Registration form to register your copy.
Feel free to distribute "CUBSYS" to other Scouters. This is a fund raising
project for our troop, distributed as Shareware, to minimize costs. Please be
sure you include PROGRAMS.ZIP, DEMODATA.ZIP, EMPTYDAT.ZIP and READ.ME if you
give a copy to others.
Yours in Scouting
